I loved this book!!! ANGEL is the final story in Johanna Lindsey's "Wyoming-Western" trilogy and was by far the best of all three in my opinion. I found Cassie to be kindhearted, sweet, and charming, even if she was meddlesome. Angel was rough around the edges, but I thought his sense of justice and sensitivity was truly endearing. I've never read a boring book by this author yet, and "Angel" was no exception. There was a lot going on from the get-go and I was hooked from the very first chapter. The storyline, dialogue, and happenings all combined to make this a fast and fun read. It has its tender moments and funny ones as well, and overall was just extremely entertaining. I also adored Cassie's pet, which happens to be a black panther! I definitely think this is one of Lindsey's better books and would absolutely recommend it to any historical romance lover. For those of you who don't know and would like to read this wonderful series set in the Wild West, here is the reading order: BRAVE THE WILD WIND... SAVAGE THUNDER... ANGEL
Awe! When I get tired of reading and can't possibly concentrate on the last sentence, I usually re-read one of my favorite writers. Johanna Lindsey is one of the best.Chase and Jessie both suffered through their childhood. Only the fact that her Mother brought Chase to the ranch forced them into facing what each needed. Jessie was taught to hate her Mother and Chase was left to a stepfather that wanted to rule him. Escaping into each other's arms was their only way out. Passion was only a touch away for them.
I first read this book in my late teens and ran across it recently on Amazon. It holds up surprisingly well on re-read. Many of the plot elements, namely Cassie's pet panther Marabelle, are not believable at all. I also had trouble believing that Cassie's dad hadn't moved on and found a long-term mistress. The secondary characters were all too nicely tied up in a pretty bow to be realistic.My favorite things about this story are the relationship between Cassie and Angel, and Angel's character. I just love him so much! I want to give him a big hug. He is SUCH a good guy, I can't stand it. The relationship between Angel and Cassie is also beautiful. It starts out well and just blossoms. I love their interactions with each other.Final Verdict: If I were reading this for the first time, it would be a 4. Nostalgia and Angel make it great. So I gave it a 5. Enjoy!
I read this book back when it first came out. More than once. I lost or misplaced my copy so I got a new one. Reread that copy more than once. When I got a kindle, I bought it for my collection. Now I would dearly love to have an audible version. Now I will tell you why.This book is funny, exciting, heartwarming, and memorable. It makes me laugh, cry, worry and, air must admit, get mad on behalf of the title character and his love interest, Cassie.If ever a book would make a good movie, it is this one. It would appeal to romance, cowboy, and animal lovers, equally. I don't see how anyone could dislike it.
This is the third in Lindsey's Wyoming trilogy (BRAVE THE WILD WIND, SAVAGE THUNDER and ANGEL). While I thought SAVAGE THUNDER might be a bit better, I liked this one just fine. It's a very entertaining historic Western romance (set in 1881, mostly in Texas).Cassie is a girl who likes to meddle in other's lives, so when she travels from her home in Wyoming where she lives with her mother to Texas to visit her father and sees two warring families, she can't help but get involved. Her solution is to see the two youngest of each family wed, which they do, only to separate after the wedding night, making everyone mad at Cassie. Angel is a gunslinger we met in book #2, a dark and dangerous man who is a friend of Colt Thunder (hero of book #2). Angel owes a favor to the man Cassie sent for to help restore peace. But when Angel comes in the "Peacemaker's" place, Cassie is not happy. She didn't want a man who would start killing people even if she is attracted to him. But Angel is committed to paying his debt to the Peacemaker so he says he's staying. When the patriarch of one of the warring families asks Cassie who Angel is she says he's her fiance to avoid the truth of his gunfighting past. As a part of his revenge on her, the patriarch forces Cassie to wed Angel. Once wed, Angel intends to claim a husband's rights. You get the picture.The story is well told and the characters charming. It's about all the reasons people who love each other fight and separate...and Lindsey brings them all together. While there's not as much action as in SAVAGE THUNDER, there's still enough to keep you turning pages. The dialog is witty and consistent with life in the early West. The hero is a strong man with a difficult past (of course) and a sweet drawl. The heroine is clever and determined to make things right. She has gumption. I recommend it.
I love this book. This is my second time second reading it and I still enjoy it. Jessie is a strong independent heroine. Raised by her father to act like a boy, she truly wants to free and be seen as a woman. Chase at first sees her as a strange kid that is his step-mother's daughter. He sees her as trouble, but slowly starts to fall in love. This book has plenty of action to keep the reader entertained.
I'm having a hard time trusting reviews. How INCREDIBLY disappointed I was in this book! I thought I was a fan of Johanna Lindsey...this was definitely not her best...or even her 100th best. The H/h had horrible chemistry, the h was unbearably prickly. The H had no reason to be friendly with her...she literally just bitched at him/nagged/insulted him 90% of the book, but why?And the ending?! How RIDICULOUS! Not saying the rest of the book was spectacular (not by a long shot) but the ending of this book was so thrown together! It was a MESS! I'm so skeptical when I read reviews these days. This book doesn't belong in a 4 star or even 3 star category. I think loyalty to the author is what people review by now...this book was terrible.
