Enjoyed this book very much! The author is transparent and generous, giving great insight into the do's and don'ts and how-to's of rapid releasing self-published books in an entertaining, smooth flowing writing style. Her background as a journalist shows. I also appreciated the section featuring the experiences of other successful authors. It's a quick read-- took a couple of hours, and there's no fluff-- packed with insight and helpful advice.
Even though I don't write clean romance, I found this book had a lot of great tips for writing and publishing quickly. I really appreciated that the author gave many examples from her own experiences as well as other authors' experiences. The case studies were great and showed there is more than one way to rapid release and sell books. Thank you for including actual sales numbers! I think that was the most helpful and inspiring of all.
Usually books on writing faster are using dictation software like Dragon Naturally speaking. This is the first book that I have seen that doesn't use it. Where she write 10k words a day using sprints and she garners success. It is interesting to see. However, if you genre isn't romance you might have a more difficult time. Romance readers read a LOT of romance. The other genres not so much.The daily schedule can be applied to anyone wanting to write and release fast. But the book is so much easier for Romance writers.
I saw on Facebook that Jewel Allen was releasing this title soon, and couldn't wait until it came out. When I finally got a chance to sit down with it, I devoured it in one sitting--two hours, to be exact. Now that I've done the speed-read, I'm going to go through it again with a fine-tooth comb, a pen and a notebook so I can take notes. Looking forward to putting into practice all the things she's learned and shared. Thanks, Jewel, glad you've shared your knowledge!
Sadly, mostly a waste of time. I've read quite a few books on publishing, but this is definitely one of the worst (and needs an editor and proof reader....). She has trouble explaining even basic things and mostly seems to just make it up as she goes. My impression was of someone who has some little base knowledge on the topic trying to make a quick buck with readers who know even less than her.
I wasn't expecting much from this book. And, even worse, I read it while recovering from a bout of food poisoning. I was in a very bad mood, because I'm terrible at just sitting around. So, it was going to take a LOT to impress me.To my (somewhat cynical) amazement, this book succeeded.Really, if you're an indie author (or want to be one) and you'd like to earn more money - preferably this month - get this book and read it, cover-to-cover. I mean it. (That should be in flashing neon lights.)I've been writing a lot of nonfiction lately, and my income isn't close to what I had in mind. But, for me, nonfiction is easy.Over the past few months, I've been griping about my book income. And writer-friends keep saying, "Well, duh, write fiction!"They were right. I just didn't want to hear it. Didn't want to shift gears. I LIKE what I do, and I know my nonfiction books are good. But.... yes, I'm tired of giddy weeks of great income, followed by a slow (or sometimes speedy) decline. (Apparently, my Amazon shopping trends reflected my feast-or-famine income. Last week, Amazon's top book recommendation for me was "You Need a Budget." LOL)Well, from the very first page of "Rapid Release," I felt like the author was speaking directly to me. About my problems. (Except that her per-book income was even worse than mine.) And then she talked about her fiction income, and what's been working for her since she flipped to fiction in 2018. Yep, that got my attention.So, the author convinced me to do what others have suggested. Even better, she gave some really great, specific tips. All of this (finally) resonated with me.So now I'm knee-deep in sub-genre research, digging out fiction I'd started (and never finished) years ago. Even better, I'm actually enjoying this. The author's authenticity has given me confidence that, yes, I really DO need to write to market. It's not as challenging as I thought. And - whew! - readers in my sub-genre are also hungry for more books.Please, if you're an indie author who wants better income, read this book. It's worth every cent, and it's a fairly fast read (maybe because I was hungrily devouring every word).Some of this isn't new advice, but she presents it in a context - and with insights I had NOT heard from others - so I'd give this book more than five stars if I could.My advice: Read this book today.
Lots of gems in this book, but mostly the motivation for authors that yes, you can do this too! I'll be reading this book over and over again.
A great overview of rapid release self-publishing. I've been thinking of jumping into the rapid release self-publishing game, and this book helped me to believe that I should just do it!
