This book takes us back to the same locale as the first in the series with a lot of the same people. Overall I liked the book. It's an easy read, although very predictable, and I like the characters. Unless you are totally addicted to big, busy cities this book would make you want to live in this town with these people. Ms. Alexander is a very good writer. You can see this town, the beauty of the mountains, smell the pastries in the bakery, hear the crowd at the volleyball match. And the men - who totally don't exist in this world, at least in my world; but you still want to read about them anyway. (Sigh). I would have given this book 5 stars except for the predictability and the SO overused phrase "Dr. Tall, Dark and Hot-some." Please, a couple times, OK; but, I don't know, 20 - 50 - seemed like a 100 times. Distracting and unneeded. But despite this I will read the next in the series. But if there is a repeat of this kind of sophomoric terminology it might be my last. I know this might seem like a nit-picky complaint but for some reason it really irritated me. Ms. Alexander is better than this.
It's such fun to return to Red River in this second novel by Shelly Alexander. I was thrilled to be drawn into the budding romance between determined attorney Angelique and local doctor Blake. Again, pet dogs play an important part in the story, as does the quaint town readers are growing to know and love with all its characters. But for me, the most interesting part of this fun romance was the opportunity to see what it feels like for a vibrant, beautiful young woman who is recovering from breast cancer to get back in touch with her body, her inner self, and her emotions. It's not often you get this kind of insight and character development, touching on such a serious subject, in a romance novel. Shelly Alexander writes with humor and empathy and breathes new life into the contemporary romance genre.
An enjoyable page turner that grabs your attention from the first line. Fast paced, interesting, sexy, romantic, and funny this book grabs you from the beginning and pulls you into the lives of the wonderfully developed characters. Angelique is a true heroine you can root for. Sassy, spunky, and full of life she is a woman who bears physical and emotional scars from her past but finds a way to come out the other side a better woman with a zest for life. Blake is wonderful as the goodhearted sexy doctor that entices, intrigues, and seduces Angelique in spite of her reservations. The town of Red River as the backdrop of the story is wonderful as it brings you into a simpler world where everyone knows each other and neighbors still say hello to each other.Overall this was a terrific read with surprising moments and I highly recommend to anyone wanting an excellent combination of humor, sex, and romance.
This book is everything a romance should be! Smart, sexy, strong lead female character and an equally strong male counterpart who knows how to seduce her.The sexual tension in the beginning leaves the reader waiting to see what happens next, and unable to put the book down. It's smart use of charm, reflection, tension and some cliché is all bundled up into an awesome novel. There is just the right amount of twists and turns to keep the reader interested and engaged without over doing it.The raw emotion and realism created by Author Shelly Alexander is such that the reader can see themself living among the characters and the town in which they live, and wishing they could be Angelique. This book is a must read!
This was a cute story that had some nice twists that set it apart from other romance literature. However, when I compare this work to the first one this author wrote ("it's in his heart") I've got to say I think I like the first one much more. Still a good read, but happy I don't have to read "hell's bells" one more time. Don't get me wrong, I'd be interested to see what this author publishes next!
Not a bad light romance. I wonder how any couple can know they are in love when all they do is have sex. Attraction, yes. Also the author used that ridiculous nickname about a hundred times to many. Ridiculous and stupid. It was almost enough for me to stop reading the story. I won't recommend.
This is a nice, sweet story with likeable characters, but very predictable and a little schmaltzy at times. Not as good as Book I in this series. This one was just too much like so many others in this genre and lacked that extra punch that makes a book a 5 star. I expected it to be better.
Recovering from physical and emotional ailments are very difficult especially when you're doing it alone. However when you have Dr. Tall, Dark, and Hot-some whom is full of not only compassion but steamy passion as well, things may be healing and looking a whole lot better!! Great read!
