I am the organist/choir director of a small congregation and frequently don't have enough singers to sing SATB consistently. The Oxford Book of Flexible Anthems provides me with a source of music for the whole church year, singable by any combination of available voices. The musical taste dispplayed is excellent, especially by Anglican standards.
ACTUALLY, MY CHOIR DIRECTOR LOVES IT--wE ARE A SMALL CHURCH CHOIR, AND THIS AS A GREAT COLLECTION OF "GOOD STUFF" AND WE HAVE ALREADY WORKED ON A COUPLE OF ANTHEMS--VERY VERY NICE!
While we wanted a resource for one anthem, we found many more. It is well worth the price with the multiple applications fit for a variety of voices.
Wonderful resource for any church choir, but especially for the small ensemble. My choir currently has only two sopranos and two altos. If someone is absent... The selections in this anthology are arranged in a way which gives you various options; unison, two parts, etc. Not necessarily easy, but flexible. There is something for each season of the liturgical year.
I am ordering a set soon. These are great arrangements.
